Happy National Tequila Day. There’s pretty much a holiday for every day of the month these days, but tequila day? This I’ll pick up a cocktail shaker for. Here’s my pick for the 5 best tequila cocktails you can whip up today to celebrate this boozy holiday.
First up, is this Jalepeno cilantro-infused margarita from Pretty Plain Janes -I mentioned this bad boy in my post where I shared the recipe for cilantro chimichurri (this recipe would be perfect to pair with any of these tequila cocktails. Dinner and drinks covered.)
Next, a delicious tequila cocktail that I feel is often overlooked in the U.S., the Paloma. The grapefruit brightens the tequila and makes for a really great summer cocktail that pairs wonderfully with spicy foods. In twist of calendar fate, National Tequila Day is also Taco Tuesday this year. I mean, does it get any better? Check out my favorite tacos here and here. This one from Drizzle and Dip definitely gets the job done.
This next recipe isn’t a cocktail in itself, but rather a side to a sipper of high-end tequila. From Food Republic:
Sangrita (pronounced just like it looks) is a traditional Mexican drink served as a chaser to high-end tequilas. Little-known in the States, it does not contain alcohol, but rather it is a simple mix of juices and spices that is designed to be consumed alongside your tequila, alternating sips and cleansing and brightening the palate as you drink — neither should be “shot” in one gulp. It’s sweet, spicy, and savory all in one little pony glass, and with tequila, the effect can be divine.
We agree. For those who really enjoy experiencing tequila in new ways, this has to top the list. I’m crushing on this fresh tomato water Sangrita from Food 52.
Grapefruit (and jalepenos) show up again on my list of the best tequila cocktails, because honestly, they are such great flavor compliments to tequila. This grapefruit margarita from Half Baked Harvest are spiced up with addition of jalepenos and a chili salt rim. Also, how gorgeous are these?
And finally, these make the list because, common, look at them. if you are celebrating national tequila day, or anything at all really, what’s better than, well, basically a mini (super strong) margarita shot served directly out of mini Patron bottles? Check the super simple how-to at She knows.
Now, head to the store, grab your favorite bottle of tequila, and whip up one or more of these beauties to celebrate national tequila day. Let me know which one you try in the comments!
